RX 100
Yamaha RX 100 has been one such bike in the Indian two-wheeler market, which is still remembered by bike lovers. It was produced from 1985 to 1996 and this bike was launched in the Indian market in partnership with Escorts Limited and Yamaha Motor Company. At that time, its fast speed, strong performance and loud sound made a special place in the hearts of the youth. RX 100 was actually based on Yamaha RXS 100, but after this models like Yamaha RXG, RXZ and RX135 were launched as its successor. RX 100 is considered a legendary bike due to its classic look and performance.
The Yamaha RX 100 had a 98.2 cc air-cooled, reed valve two-stroke single cylinder engine, which produced 11.2 horsepower and 10.45 Newton meter torque. This engine was considered very powerful in its time and its maximum speed reached 110 km/h. The bike used a four-speed constant mesh transmission and multiplate clutch, which gave a smooth riding experience. Apart from this, its KYB telescopic fork suspension and swing arm at the rear made the ride even more comfortable.
The design of the RX 100 was very simple, classic and attractive. Its straight seat, slender fuel tank and round headlight still make people nostalgic. Its retro look with chrome finishing used to attract people’s attention as soon as it walked on the roads. Now that the talks of the return of this bike are in full swing, it is expected that its new avatar will bring some modern touches along with the glimpse of the old model. The semi-digital instrument cluster and new LED lighting can upgrade it according to today’s era.
The new Yamaha RX 100 model is likely to be given a 125 cc four-stroke, air-cooled engine instead of the old two-stroke engine. This engine will not only be compliant with BS6 emission norms, but will also give better mileage and smooth performance. Along with this, modern features like fuel injection system and advanced ECU technology can also be included in it. The new model of the bike will be environmentally friendly as well as powerful. Its engine will perform better with less noise, which can make it a smart choice.
The RX 100 was famous for giving great mileage even in its time. Its fuel consumption was around 25 to 40 km per liter, which was considered quite good for that era. It was given a fuel tank capacity of 10.5 liters, so that there was no need to fill petrol again and again on long journeys. An attempt can be made to maintain this fuel efficiency in the upcoming model as well. With the help of new technology, its mileage can be improved even more, so that this bike will again be able to balance between budget and performance.
The RX 100 had expanding drum brakes in both front and rear brakes. Although this technology is now considered old, it was quite reliable at that time. Wire spoked tires – 2.50×18 in front and 2.75×18 in the rear – made the ride balanced and strong. Now that the Yamaha RX 100 is expected to be re-launched, it may include modern safety features like disc brakes and tubeless tyres, which will increase its safety and gripping capability.
The RX 100 weighed only 103 kg, making it a light and easy to control bike. Its wheelbase was 1240 mm and seat height was 765 mm, making this bike suitable for short height people as well. The bike was 2040 mm long and 740 mm wide. Due to these dimensions, the RX 100 proved to be a very easy bike to ride even on the narrow roads of the cities. Its straight and long shaped seat provided a comfortable experience for both the rider and the pillion.
The RX 100 was especially known for its sound. The loud and loud sound emanating from its two-stroke engine used to thrill bike lovers. The sound of this bike is still in the hearts of many. This is the reason why people are expecting the same powerful sound in its new avatar. Apart from this, the riding experience of the bike was very smooth and agile, due to which it could pass through the traffic very easily.
There has been no official announcement regarding the new model of Yamaha RX 100 yet, but there is a buzz in the industry that Yamaha may launch the RX 100 in a new avatar very soon. It is believed that its price can be between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom). This bike will not only be a gift for old RX lovers, but can also become an affordable and stylish option for new riders.
The return of Yamaha RX 100 can bring a new stir in the Indian two-wheeler market. Its classic design, powerful engine, and modern features can once again make it the first choice of the youth. This bike will not only refresh old memories, but will also be ready to rule the market again by keeping pace with the new era. If Yamaha launches it soon, then it definitely has the potential to become a ‘legend’ again.
