Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha Motor Company is now going to launch its first electric scooter in India. There is a lot of excitement about this project being made in collaboration with River Mobility. This scooter, being developed under the codename RY01, is being prepared for global markets including India.
The design of the Yamaha RY01 scooter is expected to have a sporty and futuristic look. This scooter will incorporate modern elements while retaining Yamaha’s traditional design language. It can get a fully LED lighting setup, flush fitted panels, aerodynamic shape and attractive body graphics. The aim is to introduce a stylish and bold electric scooter keeping in mind the young customers who will make a different identity on the city roads.
River Indie’s battery management system and platform are being used for the Yamaha RY01. River Indie gets a 4kWh battery and 6.7kW motor, which gives an IDC range of 161 km and a top speed of 90 km/h. Yamaha RY01 is being designed to give even more performance. It can have better 0-60 km/h acceleration and a powerful motor, so that this scooter gives tough competition to its competitors in terms of performance.
Yamaha RY01 is being developed specifically as a performance-oriented electric scooter. Its top speed is expected to be higher than River Indie and it will have the ability to catch the speed of 0-60 km/h in a very short time. The combination of its electric motor and battery will make it powerful in both city and highway conditions. Also, it can get features like multiple riding modes, hill hold control and regenerative braking which make the riding experience even better.
You are expected to get all the modern features in this electric scooter. These can include smart features like fully digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone interface, riding modes, cruise control, hill hold control and OTA updates. Yamaha aims to offer a product that is technologically very advanced and can give the user a premium experience. It can also include advanced features like voice command, navigation assist and vehicle tracking.
The Yamaha RY01 will be manufactured at River Mobility’s Hoskote factory in Bengaluru. According to reports, its production will start between July to September 2025 and it is also expected to be unveiled at the same time. This scooter is being prepared for domestic sales as well as export. Yamaha is aiming to make a strong entry in the Indian electric two-wheeler market through this scooter.
In the Indian market, Yamaha RY01 will compete directly with popular electric scooters like Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. In terms of performance, features and design, this scooter from Yamaha can give tough competition to the rivals. Its price can be fixed keeping in mind the premium segment. But Yamaha’s brand value and technology can make this scooter popular among the customers.
