Vietnamese electric carmaker Vinfast is now going to enter the Indian market. The company is going to start booking Vinfast VF 6 and VF 7 in India from July 15, 2025. With this announcement, Vinfast has also started its first showroom on Mount Road in Chennai.
Vinfast has made a big investment of about USD 2 billion (₹ 17,188 crores) considering the future and prospects of electric vehicles in India. The company has also set up its manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, which makes it clear that Vinfast is preparing to enter the Indian market for a long time.
Vinfast VF 6 and VF 7 are being showcased in many malls of the country so that customers can see them closely. Official booking of both electric SUVs is starting from July 15. The company’s sales will also start soon after the launch.
Vinfast has partnered with myTVS, under which 120 service points will be set up in India. This will provide excellent after-sales service to the customers. The company’s first showroom has started on Mount Road in Chennai, which is an important step for the EV market in South India.
VF 6 will be the company’s entry-level electric SUV. Its length is around 4.21 meters and it is available in Eco and Plus variants in Vietnam. Both variants have a 59.6 kWh battery which claims to give a range of up to 480 kilometers. The Plus variant gets 204 PS of power and 310 Nm of torque, making it a powerful EV.
The Vinfast VF 7 is a bigger and more powerful SUV than the VF 6, measuring 4.54 metres in length. It is available in Vietnam in Eco, Plus, and Plus AWD variants. The Eco version gets the same 59.6 kWh battery as the VF 6, while the Plus and AWD versions get a 75.6 kWh battery. It can run up to 496 km on a single charge. The Plus AWD version gets 354 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque, making it a high performance EV.
Both the VF 6 and VF 7 vehicles will be feature loaded. Vinfast’s signature design will be seen in them and these vehicles will compete with competitors like Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia and JSW MG. Key features on both these cars include:
While there is no official word on the Indian pricing of the VF 6 and VF 7 yet, the company aims to launch these vehicles at a competitive price due to local manufacturing. The launch date will be announced soon, and Vinfast is expected to position these SUVs in the premium electric crossover segment.
Vinfast’s entry into the Indian market could further intensify the competition in the EV segment. The company’s aggressive investments, local manufacturing and powerful product lineup indicate that Vinfast is prepared for the long haul in India.
