VinFast
Vinfast, Vietnam’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is now going to enter India and is ready to give a direct competition to companies like Tata and Hyundai. The company will initially launch its two premium electric SUV models – VF 6 and VF 7, which will challenge the Hyundai Creta Electric and Tata Harrier.ev respectively. Both the cars will have powerful batteries, long range and great features. The company will assemble these vehicles in India and booking is expected to start from the end of this month. Vinfast’s entry is going to make India’s EV market even more exciting.
Vietnam’s electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is now going to enter the Indian market. The company has revealed its first phase strategy in India. VinFast intends to establish itself as a premium brand in India.
VinFast’s first two vehicles will be VF 6 and VF 7, which will be launched in a segment already popular among Indian customers. VF 7 will directly compete with Tata Harrier.ev, while VF 6 will compete with Hyundai Creta Electric.
The company can start booking for both these electric cars by the end of this month. It will start with VF 7 and after that VF 6 will be launched in the market. It is expected that the first delivery can start at the end of this quarter or early next quarter.
The VinFast VF 7 is a mid-size SUV measuring 4,545 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,636 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,840 mm. The VF 7 is offered with two motor options — one with 130 kW (174 hp) and 250 Nm of torque, and the other with 150 kW (201 hp) and 310 Nm of torque. Talking about the battery, the first variant has a 59.6 kWh battery that gives a range of 498 km, while the second has a 70.8 kWh battery that can run up to 496 km.
The VF 6 is a compact electric SUV measuring 4,241 mm in length, 1,834 mm in width and 1,580 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,730 mm. It also has two motor options – the first with 130 kW (174 hp) and 250 Nm torque, and the second with 150 kW (201 hp) and 310 Nm torque. Both options have a 59.6 kWh battery, which gives a range of 480 km and 460 km respectively.
VinFast will import VF 6 and VF 7 in India as CKD units from Vietnam and assemble them at its plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This plant will initially start with a production capacity of 50,000 units per year, which can later be increased to 1.5 lakh units.
Since VinFast’s vehicles will be completely premium segment and local assembly will also be limited, their prices may be higher than brands like Tata and Hyundai. However, great range, premium design and smart features will keep these vehicles competitive.
VinFast’s entry into India can create a new stir in the electric car segment. The arrival of an international premium brand will not only give more options to the customers, but will also inspire other companies to increase technology and quality.
