Tesla Model Y Now in India – Fast, Smart & Fully Electric

Tesla Model Y has finally launched its much-awaited electric SUV, the Model Y in India. It has a starting price of ₹ 59.89 lakh and is available in two variants – RWD and Long Range RWD. The Long Range variant offers a WLTP range of up to 622 km on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds. It gets a 15.4-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, 7 airbags, ADAS features and Tesla’s signature minimalist interior. Bookings have started at ₹ 22,220.

Launch

Tesla has launched its first dealership in India in Mumbai and on this occasion the Tesla Model Y has been officially launched. This car is the company’s first offering in India and has been introduced in two variants.

Variants

Tesla Model Y has been launched in two variants – the first is the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant and the second is the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant. There is a difference in both the variants on the basis of performance and range.

Tesla Model Y Price

The ex-showroom price of the RWD variant of Tesla Model Y has been kept at ₹ 59.89 lakh. At the same time, the price of the Long Range RWD variant has been fixed at ₹ 67.89 lakh. These prices establish it in the premium electric SUV segment.

Battery

The RWD variant uses a 60kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, which is known for energy efficiency and safety. The Long Range variant has a 75kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery, which is capable of delivering long range and better performance.

Range

The RWD variant of the Tesla Model Y can cover a distance of up to 500 km on a single charge as per WLTP certification. At the same time, the WLTP range of the Long Range variant is up to 622 km, making it one of the longest-range electric SUVs in India.

Performance

The RWD variant of the Tesla Model Y can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds. The Long Range variant is even faster and it achieves a speed of 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds. The top speed of both variants is 201 kmph.

Charging

The Tesla Model Y has been given DC fast charging support, which accepts fast charging up to 250kW. With the help of this charging technology, the car can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. A range of up to 267 km can be achieved in just 15 minutes with the Tesla Supercharger.

Design

The exterior design of the Tesla Model Y follows Tesla’s global design philosophy. It has a coupe-like roof style, flush door handles and a sleek profile, which gives it a modern and premium look. Its design is quite aerodynamic and attractive.

Interior

The interior of the Tesla Model Y is completely minimalistic. There are no traditional buttons of any kind in it. All controls are operated through a 15.4-inch touchscreen. Navigation, media, HVAC and drive modes are controlled from this screen.

Technology

The Tesla Model Y has been given advanced technology like voice command, lock/unlock with the help of smartphone, over-the-air software updates and 8-inch touch display for rear seats. Along with this, features like dual wireless charger and automatic climate control are also available.

Safety

The Tesla Model Y has been given modern safety features like seven airbags, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Apart from this, the 360-degree camera system also further improves the safety of the car.

Color

The Tesla Model Y has been introduced in India in six attractive exterior colors. These color options have been designed keeping in mind the preferences of every type of customer, so that customers can choose the option according to their choice.

Booking

Booking of Tesla Model Y has started with a token amount of ₹ 22,220. Customers will have to deposit an additional amount of ₹ 3 lakh within a week to confirm the booking. This process can be completed through Tesla’s website or authorized dealership.

Competition

Tesla Model Y will compete directly with premium electric SUVs already present in India like Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volvo XC40 Recharge. However, Tesla’s brand value and its advanced technology make it different from other brands.
