Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid has now come to the market with new technology and modern features. This bike now has hybrid technology like 4.2 inch color TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity and Smart Motor Generator (SMG), which helps in increasing mileage. Its design is muscular and streetfighter-like, which has already become a favorite of the people. The 149cc engine gives smooth riding, although the performance is a bit limited. The price is ₹ 1.45 lakh, which may seem expensive to some people, but the abundance of features makes it a premium commuter.
Yamaha FZ-S Technology added to design and features
Yamaha’s FZ series has always been a reliable bike in the 150cc segment, and now a new name has been added to this family – Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid. In appearance, it still looks like the same powerful and muscular streetfighter, which attracts people at first sight. Although no major changes have been made in the design, but new colors, blue engine case highlights and updated indicators definitely give a slightly fresh look to the bike.
This time the biggest change has come in the form of a new 4.2-inch TFT display, which was not seen in this segment till now. This screen not only looks great, but also connects to Yamaha’s Y-Connect app and provides high-tech features like turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, phone battery status, parking location and malfunction notifications.
Excellent experience in riding position and comfort
The riding position of Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is quite comfortable and straight, which is perfect for daily city commute. The seat height of 790mm and the weight of only 138 kg make it easy to handle even in traffic. Its seat is flat, wide and well padded, which provides comfort to both the rider and the pillion.
Light in performance, but promises smooth riding
This bike has a 149cc air-cooled SOHC engine, which generates 12.4hp of power and 13.3Nm of torque. This time Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system has also been added to it, which gives light support to the engine at low RPM. However, it is a bit difficult to feel how much this system works while riding. But as far as fuel saving is concerned, this hybrid technology and auto start/stop system definitely seem effective.
The performance of the bike is smooth especially up to 80km/h, but after that the engine starts feeling a bit tired. Its power delivery is very linear, which makes it very easy to drive in city traffic.
Slight compromise in suspension and handling
No changes have been made to the chassis of the FZ-S Fi Hybrid, and it still feels very balanced in the city. But its suspension settings are a bit stiff, which can cause some discomfort on bad roads. High-speed stability is decent, but this bike does not encourage the rider to ride aggressively. Braking is handled by front and rear disc brakes, whose response is reliable.
Price and Conclusion
The ex-showroom price of the Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is ₹ 1.45 lakh, which is ₹ 10,000 more expensive than the standard FZ-S. At this price, you do get a TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity and better mileage, but in terms of performance, it lags behind options like Pulsar N160 and Apache RTR 160 4V, which offer more power, better suspension and features like dual-channel ABS.
If you are looking for a technology-loaded, comfortable and brand value commuter bike, then the Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid can be a great option for you. But if your budget is limited and you need more performance than features, then any other variant of the FZ series can be a better deal.
