Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor are now going to take a big step in the Indian electric vehicle market. Both the companies are all set to introduce their first electric SUVs – Maruti e Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. Their production-spec versions have been officially introduced. Sales of Maruti e Vitara will start from September 2025, while Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is expected to arrive by the end of the year.
The base platform, features, battery and other technologies of both the vehicles are the same. Urban Cruiser EV is actually a rebadged version of e Vitara, which will see Toyota’s signature grille and slight design changes.
Talking about battery and performance, both EVs will come in two battery options – 49kWh and 61kWh. The smaller battery pack will produce 143bhp of power while the larger battery pack will generate 173bhp. Both setups will get 193Nm of torque. Maruti has confirmed that the bigger battery will provide a range of more than 500KM.
Talking about the interior, both the EVs have a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster. With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, these vehicles will be technologically very advanced. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will get special 40:20:40 split rear seats that can also slide and recline.
Both electric SUVs will have features like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), including lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Toyota’s EV has a single-tone theme while Maruti’s e Vitara will get a brown-black dual-tone interior.
