Hyundai
Hyundai Motor India faced a decline in sales in May 2025. The company sold a total of 58,701 vehicles this month, of which 43,861 units were domestic and 14,840 units were exported. The reason for the decline in sales was the planned maintenance shutdown at the plant located near Chennai, which affected the delivery of some popular models. However, exports were not affected. The recently launched Creta Electric has caught people’s attention. Now Hyundai is preparing to launch the new Venue and is working on a plan to bring 26 new models by FY2030.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recorded a total sale of 58,701 units in May 2025, of which 43,861 units were sold in the domestic market and 14,840 units through exports. However, a special thing in these figures was that the company had deliberately shut down the plant during the month, which directly affected domestic sales.
Hyundai carried out a half-yearly maintenance shutdown at its production plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, affecting the supply of many popular models. This was a pre-planned decision aimed at updating and maintaining the machinery and systems of the plant. However, this interruption affected only domestic sales in India, while it had no effect on exports.
While production declined in the domestic market, the export figures reflected the strength of the company’s global supply chain. In May 2025, Hyundai exported 14,840 units abroad, indicating a stable and positive growth.
Earlier this year, Hyundai launched the Creta Electric in India, which gave the highest monthly sales ever for the brand. This electric SUV proved to be very popular among Indian customers and the company got further strength in the EV segment.
Hyundai is currently preparing for the new generation Venue, which can knock in the Indian market by the end of the year. This updated model will include new design elements like Creta and Alcazar. The changes in this will not be limited to the exterior only, but the interior will also get advanced technology and better features.
The new Venue is likely to be offered with the same old but reliable engine options:
These engines will be available with different transmission options, allowing customers to choose the variant as per their preference.
Hyundai has recently revealed that it has planned to launch 26 new models in India by FY2030. These will include 6 fully electric vehicles, which will further accelerate the EV transition in India. Along with this, the company is also going to bring new models, facelift versions and better technology in its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) range.
The company now wants to ensure that its delivery cycle is stable again, so that customers can get timely delivery of vehicles. After the maintenance shutdown, the plant has now resumed at full capacity and stability and growth in sales figures is expected in the coming months.
HMIL Whole-time Director and COO Tarun Garg said that production has returned to normal and the company is expecting a boom in sales due to macroeconomic and geopolitical stability.
May 2025 may have been a bit challenging for Hyundai in terms of production, but the company’s performance remained balanced due to its strategic planning, EV launches and exports. The success of the Creta Electric and the launch of the upcoming new-gen Venue have further increased customer expectations.
