Skoda Kodiaq
Skoda Kodiaq Even though the options in the Full-Size SUV segment are limited in the Indian automobile market, this segment is still one of the most preferred categories. This segment attracts premium customers a lot due to features like great road presence, powerful engine, comfortable driving experience and feature-rich cabin. The June 2025 sales report shows that Toyota Fortuner has once again won the race in this segment.
Toyota Fortuner registered a total sale of 2,743 units in June 2025, which shows a yearly growth (YoY) of 3% as compared to 2,675 units sold in June 2024 last year. Not only this, compared to May 2025, Fortuner sales have also seen a monthly growth (MoM) of 7%. In June itself, the company introduced a new version called Fortuner Neo Drive, which has a 48V mild hybrid system. The reliability of the Toyota brand and the strong performance of the Fortuner keep it consistently at the top in this segment.
Skoda’s premium SUV Kodiaq sold 130 units in June 2025, which shows a decline of 5% compared to 137 units sold in June last year. Its sales have seen an even greater decline on a month-on-month basis, which is 38%. Although the Kodiaq’s position remained at number two, the falling pace of sales can be a matter of concern for the brand.
The biggest positive surprise in this segment was the Jeep Meridian, which sold 107 units in June 2025. This figure shows an annual growth of 65% compared to 65 units sold in June 2024 last year. In this report, after Fortuner, Meridian was the only SUV to have gained on a YoY basis. Although MoM data has not been shared, this growing sales is an encouraging sign for Jeep.
MG’s Gloster has suffered a major setback this time. Only 34 units of it could be sold in June 2025, while 132 units were sold in the same month last year. Thus, Gloster sales have registered a massive drop of 74%. Recently, the company has showcased the facelift version of Gloster called Majestor at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, which may be launched in the coming months. The new version will be on sale along with Gloster and will be offered as a top variant.
The most disappointing performance in the full-size SUV segment was that of the Volkswagen Tiguan, with only 5 units sold in June 2025. 85 units of the Tiguan were sold in the same month last year, showing a 94% YoY decline in sales. Its sales have also seen a 67% decline on a monthly basis. The Tiguan R-Line is being imported to India via the CBU route, and its high price is affecting its performance. In July 2025, the company is offering a discount of up to ₹ 3 lakh on this SUV, which can be expected to improve some sales.
It is clear from the June 2025 sales report that the Toyota Fortuner remains the undisputed king of this segment. Jeep Meridian has also moved towards strengthening its hold in the market with good growth. At the same time, Skoda Kodiaq and MG Gloster are struggling with falling sales, while Volkswagen Tiguan has performed the weakest.
Even though competition is limited in the full-size SUV segment, customer choice and price sensitivity determine the success of this category. MG Majestor and possible new entries in the coming months can give a new direction to this segment.
