Electric Car Boom in India! Tata, MG & Mahindra Lead EV Sales in June 2025

The demand for electric Car is constantly increasing in the Indian automobile sector and the June 2025 sales report proves it completely. Petrol-diesel prices, increasing environmental awareness and incentives from the government have given a new flight to the EV market. Retail sales of electric cars reached 13,178 units in June 2025, up 7.10% from May 2025 and 79.95% from June 2024.

Tata Motors EV

Tata Motors became the largest electric car selling company in June 2025. With models like Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Nexon EV, Punch EV and Curvv EV, Tata sold 4,708 units. In the same month last year, the company sold 4,594 units, registering a modest but steady growth of 2.48% year-on-year. On the other hand, Tata registered a monthly growth of 8.21% as compared to May 2025, which shows the strong hold of their product portfolio.

Electric Car MG Motor

MG Motor India sold a total of 3,972 units in June, which is a growth of 168.38% compared to a year ago. This can be attributed to new models like the MG Windsor EV Pro, which showed great performance as soon as it came to the market. MG sold 3,765 units in May 2025, which also saw MoM growth of 5.5% in June.

Mahindra’s BE 6 and XEV 9e

Mahindra has also made a strong entry into the electric segment. In June 2025, the company sold a total of 3,029 units, up from just 486 units in June 2024 – that is, an annual growth of 523.25%! Latest launches like the BE 6 and XEV 9e have further strengthened the brand’s EV portfolio. Mahindra sold 2,632 units in May 2025, registering a monthly growth of 15.08%.

Electric Car Hyundai

Hyundai also made a strong comeback in the EV race with 512 units in June 2025. The company sold just 63 units in the same month last year, leading to a YoY growth of 712.70%. However, 606 units were sold in May 2025, leading to a decline of 15.51% this month. This shows that there is some uncertainty in the company’s sales.

BYD and BMW

BYD India sold 476 units in June, up 95.88% over last year. However, in May 2025, the company sold 494 units, which resulted in a slight decline of 3.64% in MoM terms.

BMW India has strengthened its hold in the EV segment by selling 214 units. This figure is 275.44% more than June 2024 and a growth of 22.99% over May 2025, which reflects the growing popularity of BMW in the luxury EV segment.

Electric Car Citroen

While the sales of other brands are growing rapidly, Citroen’s EV sales declined sharply. Only 80 units were sold in June 2025, compared to 238 units in the same month last year. That is a massive decline of 66.39%. In May 2025, the company sold 123 units, which also resulted in a decline of 34.96% in MoM terms.

Mercedes-Benz and Kia

Mercedes-Benz sold 94 units in June 2025, up 95.83% YoY and 6.82% MoM. Kia India also sold 41 units in the EV segment, registering 156.25% YoY and 57.69% MoM growth.

Decline in Volvo and Others

Volvo India also suffered a setback this month. The company sold only 22 units, down 54.17% from last year. At the same time, 33 units were sold in May 2025, a MoM decline of 33.33%.

Smaller companies in the ‘Others’ category sold 30 units in June 2025, up from just 12 last month – a 150% MoM growth. However, their sales have declined by 40% YoY.

Future of EV market

If we look at the data of June 2025, it is clear that the demand for electric cars in India is now rapidly becoming mainstream. Apart from domestic brands like Tata, MG and Mahindra, international brands like Hyundai, BYD and BMW are also working aggressively in this space. EV incentives from the government, tax exemptions, and expansion of charging infrastructure are making this growth more sustainable.

While Tata Motors has maintained its dominance in the EV segment, MG and Mahindra have also made tremendous leaps. The performance of brands like Hyundai, BYD and BMW has also shown that the electric car segment is no longer just a trend, but has become a permanent change.

If you are also thinking of buying an electric car, then this is the right time. You are now getting a lot of options to choose from – style, range, features and price – everything is now available according to your need.
