BMW F 450 GS to Get Semi-Automatic Gearbox – No Clutch Needed!

BMW F 450 GS :- Motorrad is expanding its GS lineup further and this time, it is targeting the smaller segment riders. The upcoming F 450 GS will not only replace the G 310 GS but will also get something that was previously only seen in the bigger models – a semi-automatic gearbox. The motorcycle will be manufactured in India by TVS, and some of its key features and technical specifications have already been revealed. Let’s take a closer look at this much-awaited adventure bike.

Semi-automatic gearbox

The biggest highlight of the BMW F 450 GS is the semi-automatic transmission option. While there will be a variant with a conventional manual gearbox, the company is also offering a semi-automatic gearbox for the first time in the segment. The system could be similar to the ASA (Automated Shift Assistant) found in BMW’s high-end models like the R 1300 GS, but in a simpler form.

The ASA system has two modes – A mode and D mode. In A mode, the rider can shift gears without clutch, while D mode is fully automatic where the bike changes gears on its own from start to stop. However, in the F 450 GS, it will not be a full ASA, but a customized version of it that will offer more comfort at a lower cost.

Manual and semi-automatic

BMW will launch this bike in two transmission options – one with a conventional manual gearbox, and the other with a semi-automatic gearbox. The manual version will come at a slightly lower price so that more customers can afford it. On the other hand, the semi-automatic version will target the premium segment, especially keeping in mind the new and young riders.

This power output is in line with the A2 license category, making it perfect for markets like Europe and India. The kerb weight of the bike is said to be around 175 kg, which makes it a balanced and agile adventure tourer.

Advanced Technology

You will also get rider modes in the BMW F 450 GS which adjust the performance of the bike according to the riding conditions. Apart from this, advanced features like quickshifter will also be given as an option. These features will improve the on-road and off-road experience of the bike.

Features for better off-roading

The BMW F 450 GS is specially designed for off-roading. It can be found in:

  • Switchable traction control
  • Off-road mode
  • Off-road ABS

With the help of all these features, the bike feels stable and safe even on different roads. Apart from this, it will get 19 inch front and 17 inch rear wheel combination which has become the identity of the GS series.

Manufactured in India

The BMW F 450 GS will be manufactured in India in partnership with TVS Motor. This means that it can be brought to India at an affordable price. This bike will be launched in the global market by the end of 2025, which will also include India.

New platform

BMW has also indicated that this new 450cc platform will not be limited to just the F 450 GS. In the future, a naked roadster and a faired bike based on this platform can also be launched. Although their launch timeline has not been confirmed at the moment, it is certain that this platform is bringing a lot of potential.

Conclusion

The BMW F 450 GS can prove to be a perfect choice for riders who are new to adventure biking but want to experience premium technology. Its semi-automatic gearbox, riding modes, and off-roading features not only make it smart but can also make it the most advanced bike in its segment. Its manufacturing in India can also keep its price competitive.
