India EV Sales June 2025: Tata on Top, Mahindra-Hyundai Shine

The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market has been quite active in June 2025. Various brands set new sales records and some faced unexpected declines. Overall, the EV segment witnessed positive growth, reflecting the rapid pace of EV adoption in India. Brands such as Tata Motors, Mahindra, MG Motor India and Hyundai have reported good sales growth, while some brands such as Citroen and Audi experienced a decline.

Tata Motors becomes EV market leader

Tata Motors sold a total of 4,664 electric vehicles in June 2025, up 2% from 4,590 units sold in June 2024 last year. At the same time, the company registered a monthly growth of 1% as compared to May 2025. This shows that Tata is delivering stable and reliable performance in the EV segment. The main reason for this is the strong demand for models like Nexon EV and Tiago EV.

Mahindra’s 512% YoY growth

Mahindra sold 2,979 units in June 2025, as against just 487 units in the same month last year. This represents an extraordinary growth of 512% on a year-on-year basis. The company also registered a growth of 5% as compared to May 2025. Models like the XUV400 EV and the newly launched e-Scorpio have gained rapid popularity among customers. This figure confirms the success of Mahindra’s EV strategy.

Impressive performance of MG Motor India

MG Motor India sold 3,945 units in June 2025, up 167% from 1,476 units in June 2024. Although the company’s sales have declined marginally by 3% as compared to May 2025, MG’s total sales still make it the second-largest EV brand in India. MG Comet EV and ZS EV have played an important role in this growth.

Hyundai’s 708% annual growth

Hyundai has made a tremendous leap in the EV segment. In June 2025, the company sold 509 units, up from only 63 units last year. This shows an annual growth of 708%. However, in May 2025, the company sold 639 units, which has led to a decline of 20% in June. The recently launched Hyundai Creta EV has played a major role in this growth.

Performance of BYD and Kia

Chinese brand BYD sold 461 units in June, up 90% over last year, but it has declined by 11% compared to May 2025. At the same time, Kia registered sales of 41 units, up 156% over last year and 37% over May. Premium models like the Kia EV6 and EV9 have given stability to the brand.

Citroen’s big decline

Citroen sold only 80 units in June 2025, down from 238 units in June 2024. This represents a decline of 66%. Sales have also declined by 35% compared to May 2025. Vehicles like the Citroen eC3 did not get the success that was expected.

Luxury EV market situation

The luxury EV segment has also shown mixed performance in June 2025. BMW sold the most 212 units, up 272% compared to last year. It has also registered a growth of 15% compared to May 2025. Models like the BMW iX and i4 have contributed to this growth.

Mercedes-Benz and Volvo’s position

Mercedes-Benz sold 91 units in June 2025, which is 94% more than June 2024. However, there has been a slight decline of 4% compared to May. Volvo’s sales, on the other hand, have declined drastically. The company sold only 22 units in June 2025, compared to 48 units last year. This shows a decline of 54%.

Audi and other brands’ sales

Audi’s position was even worse. The company sold only 2 units in June 2025, compared to 19 units last year. This is a decline of 89%. It has also registered a decline of 60% compared to May 2025. Other premium brands sold a total of 27 units, which is 21% less than last year, but 286% more than May.

Conclusion

June 2025 was an interesting month for the Indian EV market. While mainstream brands like Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai and MG performed well, Citroen and some luxury brands faced challenges. The surge in annual sales of Mahindra and Hyundai has proved that customer interest in EVs is increasing. New launches and technological upgrades in the coming months could take this segment to greater heights.
