Kushaq Down, Kylaq Dominates – Skoda-VW May 2025 Sales Reveal Shocking Trends!

Skoda

In May 2025, Skoda and Volkswagen’s combined sales saw a massive 55.73% year-on-year growth, with a total of 9,588 units sold, up from 6,157 units in May 2024. The biggest driver of this growth was Skoda’s new car Kylaq, which alone strengthened the company by selling 4,949 units.

The entry of Kylaq has proved to be a game-changer for the Skoda brand. It accounted for 73.43% of total Skoda sales in May 2025 and also led the Skoda-Volkswagen total sales with a 51.62% share.

On the Volkswagen side, the Virtus model performed well and recorded sales of 1,707 units, up 6.02% over last year. It accounted for 59.94% of the total sales of the VW brand, which is a positive sign for the company.

In contrast, other major Skoda models like Slavia and Kushaq faced a huge decline. Slavia sales fell from 1,538 units in May 2024 to 937 in May 2025, a decline of -39.08%. Kushaq sales also declined by -44.34% and only 644 units could be sold.

Volkswagen Taigun’s condition was also similar. The model, which sold 1,561 units in May 2024, was reduced to just 1,126 units in May 2025, witnessing a decline of -27.87%. VW’s premium SUV Tiguan had the worst sales, with only 15 units sold, a decline of -85.29%.

In the premium segment, Skoda Kodiaq performed better than expected. Its sales grew by 12.43% as compared to May 2024 and touched the figure of 208 units. At the same time, the Superb model almost disappeared from the market with sales of just 2 units, which was 4 units last year.

If we compare month-on-month, the total sales of Skoda-Volkswagen in April 2025 was 10,153 units, which came down to 9,588 units in May 2025. This means that total sales declined by 5.56% compared to the previous month. The biggest decline was seen in Tiguan, whose sales decreased by -83.52%. At the same time, Kodiaq gained 94.39% on MoM basis this month, which proves that this SUV is slowly winning the trust of the customers.

Kylaq witnessed a MoM decline of -7.74% while Slavia and Kushaq declined by -10.59% and -17.75% respectively. Virtus was the only model that showed positive growth in both MoM and YoY comparison. Virtus sales grew by 6.36% as compared to April, which clearly shows that customer confidence in this model remains consistent.

This report clearly shows that the competition in the market is getting tough for both Skoda and Volkswagen. While new models like Kylaq have performed beyond expectations, old and flagship models like Slavia, Kushaq and Taigun need to be reinvigorated. Virtus remains a strong pillar for Volkswagen but premium vehicles like Tiguan are in dire need of rebranding or updating.

Overall, May 2025 was a mixed bag for Skoda-Volkswagen. On one hand, the excellent start of Kylaq and the stable hold of Virtus pulled up the growth, while on the other hand, popular models like Slavia, Kushaq and Tiguan raised concerns. In the coming months, companies will have to work seriously on their portfolio so that the falling models can be strengthened again.
