Maruti
The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is now moving towards the future. The company has set a target to regain 50% market share in the domestic market by 2030. In this direction, the company is going to launch five new vehicles by 2026, which will include both electric vehicles (EVs) and strong hybrid models. These vehicles will not only cover different price segments, but will also set a new benchmark in the market in terms of technology and mileage.
The launch of Maruti’s first all-electric SUV e Vitara is scheduled for September 2025. This electric SUV will have two battery pack options – one 61.1kWh and the other 49kWh. In the variant with a larger battery, this car will give a range of more than 500 km on a single charge. The company claims that it will take only 50 minutes to charge it from 0 to 80 percent. The most important thing is that e Vitara will be the first Maruti car to be launched in India in which modern technology like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) will be provided.
Maruti is also working on a new mid-size SUV, which can be named Escudo. This SUV will be placed in the range below the company’s Grand Vitara but its length can be slightly more than that. From this it can be guessed that it will get more boot space. In terms of design, engine and features, it will be quite similar to Grand Vitara. According to reports, Escudo can be launched during the festive season 2025 (October-November).
Maruti Fronx Hybrid will be the first car of the company in which Maruti’s in-house developed strong hybrid system will be used. It will be paired with a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine with an electric motor and hybrid system. According to media reports, this configuration will be capable of delivering mileage of more than 35 kilometers per liter. There will be no major changes in its look, but the ‘Hybrid’ badge can be seen at the back. This car is expected to be launched in early 2026.
The next generation version of Maruti’s premium hatchback Baleno will also be launched in the second half of 2026 (H2). This car will be completely updated from exterior design to interior. Although not much technical information has been revealed about it at the moment, it is certain that it will also be given the same 1.2L petrol-hybrid powertrain, which will be seen in the Fronx Hybrid. This update can help make Baleno number one in its segment again.
Maruti is also going to launch a new sub-4 meter MPV by the end of 2026, which will directly compete with Renault Triber and Nissan’s upcoming MPV. This vehicle will be based on the Suzuki Spacia of the Japanese market, which is a Kei car. This vehicle is being specially designed keeping in mind the budget segment. It will also get the same 1.2 liter petrol engine and strong hybrid system, which can make it a family-friendly option with great mileage.
Maruti Suzuki no longer wants to depend only on petrol engines under its new strategy. The company is focusing on electric and hybrid vehicles keeping in view the needs of the future. Long range EVs like e Vitara and mileage-king cars like Fronx Hybrid show that the company is ready to offer environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient options.
These five models – e Vitara, Escudo, Fronx Hybrid, New Baleno and Mini MPV – expected to be launched by 2026 will not only help Maruti increase its market share but will also provide customers with technology and efficiency-rich options.
